ABOUT
Hello, I'm Kim Rice, artist, designer and owner of Pallet Barn TN. My passion is creating and helping others share their stories. I had been making home decor pieces for friends and family, many years before moving to Tennessee in 2011. While my background is in architectural design, I have been an artist all my life.
Living in Texas I had a successful business and sold it when deciding to move to Tennessee. Although, I had no idea what I would do after moving here. I first began volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, which I had previously done in Texas. Also, volunteering at animal shelters. Eventually, I began a direct sales business holding paint parties and teaching the art of furniture painting to anyone who wanted to learn. I continued to make home decor pieces and while shopping at an antique store, one Saturday, I met a gentleman who had been a tobacco farmer for most of his life. We talked and I shared with him what I was doing. He asked me if I could make something from some tobacco sticks and barn wood from his 1920's tobacco barn. I had never worked with those materials but I accepted the challenge.
What I presented to him were small Tennessee Flags from the tobacco sticks and an American Flag from the barn wood. By doing this, I created family heirlooms, saving small pieces of his family history that continue to tell his family's story.
I truly enjoyed what I was creating and didn't want to continue making money for someone else; I remembered why I had left my corporate job to start my business in Texas. This is my story why I began Pallet Barn TN in January 2017.
In March 2017 I had my first clients and in September, Sumner Crest Winery contacted me about starting Wine & Signs. Those workshops are what boosted my business to get where I am now.
It's always beneficial to try new things, even if you you fail. It becomes a learning experience. In 2018, I opened and closed a small studio. It wasn't the right location or size but I have no regrets. 2019 will bring some new experiences. I look forward to you taking the journey with me on my 2019 adventure!.
I hope you'll join me for a workshop, soon!
